Apple has rolled out a new service portal that allows local businesses to manage their listings – Apple Maps Connect. The service lets small business owners or their authorized representatives add or edit their business’ locations and gives them the opportunity to sync their profiles with their personal website, Yelp, Facebook, and Twitter pages.
Businesses can also list additional information such as their email address or contact number. Any changes made should take about a week to reflect on Apple Maps and customers can use Siri to search for your businesses so you gain a Geo-presence.
You need an Apple ID and password to sign in to the Maps Connect Portal, however, if you don’t have an Apple ID you need to create one. Once you’ve registered, you can begin using the service for free. To list a new business, users first enter the name, address, contact number and relationship with the company.
After verifying your business contact number, Apple will call and assign you a PIN code. This code has to be entered in to Maps Connect portal. Alternatively, business owners will receive the PIN code through an email address affiliated with their company’s website. From there, users can add other options, including location, business categories, hours of service and links to social media and Yelp.
Apple is also giving Map users a chance to sign up for iBeacon priority installation through it. according to Search engine land, the new portal is only available to folks in the US for now, but the company promises to extend its service to other countries in future.
