Dropbox’s Microsoft integration has been activated on iPhone and Android devices. Earlier this month, Dropbox teamed up with Microsoft to allow users to edit Office docs from directly inside their Dropbox.
The latest update of the Dropbox app for iOS and Android lets you open documents, spreadsheets or presentations when you’re on the go by tapping into Dropbox cloud storage directly. Hitting the edit icon opens your vital document in the corresponding Office app; those who don’t have the Office apps previously installed will be first redirected to the iOS App store for downloading the appropriate app for that file.
The integration works the other way too, allowing you to get access to files stored in Dropbox from an Office app. When you’re done, your changes will automatically be synced and saved to your Dropbox account.
As of now, the new feature is limited to Office docs, spreadsheets and presentations and is available through the latest Dropbox app for iOS. Eventually, the new feature will roll out to web users early next year.
