Apple rolled out an interesting new service –iTunes pass in selected countries including US and Australia that lets you use Passbook to add money in your iTunes account at an Apple retail store.
iTunes Pass allows you to got a Apple Store, purchase credit in-store for the iTunes Store, the App store, or the iBookstore and quickly add money to your iTunes account without having to jump through hoops. Previously, you had to purchase a gift card, enter a redemption code then trash the gift card.
The goal behind the new service seems to be to use Passbook to eliminate the need to buy physical gift cards, use a credit or debit card, or keep track of redemption codes to buy your favorite App Store and iTunes items.
Here’s how to add an iTunes Pass to your phone?
- Just open the iTunes app on your iOS device and scroll to the bottom of the Featured section where you need to tap on the Redeem button.
- Sign in with your Apple ID when prompted.
- Scroll down to the iTunes Pass section, verify the correct Apple ID is displayed and tap Add iTunes Pass to Passbook.
The next time you get into an Apple store you can show this card to their employee and ask for money to be added to your account. The employee scans the pass in order to immediately apply the credit to your iTunes account.
