IFA Expo 2014: Major Tech Players Showcase their new Gadgets

Major tech companies like Sony, Samsung and Microsoft used the IFA 2014 trade show in Berlin to either announce or showcase new devices to the world. The IFA expo 2014 runs starting September 5th through September 10th at the Messe Berlin convention centre.

IFA 2014The most anticipated gadgets on the list include smartphones, wearable headsets, smartwatches and more.


Korean smartphone maker Samsung surprised the attendees with a brand new Galaxy Edge, the Gear VR goggles and Gear S along with the long-rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 4- which features a curved screen.

Galaxy Note 4 features a 5.7 inch screen, while the Galaxy Note Edges will be 5.6 inches. Note 4 is powered by Exynos 8-core behemoth for the European market and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor for North America.

The side-display allows you to access tools such as weather and time, flashlight and stopwatch, etc.

The Edge features a side display for quick access to the flash light, Twitter, news and frequently used apps.

Samsung hasn’t revealed anything about the prices. Prices for Galaxy Note 3 may be the same as the price of Note 3 and higher for the Edge.

Samsung’s $200 Gear VR headset is compatible with Note 4 and won’t work with the Edge or other phones.


Sony will also participate in the IFA 2014 event to unveil a whole bunch of products like smartphones, cameras, fitness tracker and a brand-new Sony Walkman that have been rumored in some way. Sony announced new 4K TV screens, including a huge 75 inch model.

Earlier, Sony partnered with FIFA to telecast parts of the event in 4K as well as the first 4K theatre broadcast – Warhorse. They also unveiled a new range of 4K capable Alpha lens based cameras- the QX range and a wearable video camera, the Action Cam mini.

Sony has just unveiled a cut-down version of its latest flagship- Xperia Z3 Compact which is waterproof like its predecessors. It is powered by 2.5Ghz quad-core CPU and sports 1080p, 5.2 inch screen which runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

HTC and Nokia

HTC have the Desire 820, the first 64-bit Sndroid phone with an Octo-core processor and Cat 4 LTE.

Nokia on the other hand are about to announce the Lumia 730 “selfie phone” and the Lumia 830 smartphones.


Acer brings several new PCs and tablets to this week’s IFA 2014 expo. The Taiwanese giant also showed off its Liquid Z500 smartphone that is targeted at the music lovers and is the smallest and lightest 5-inch handset around.


Asus announced its new smartwatch, the Zen watch at the ongoing IFA event. The ZenWatch can be paired with the latest Android phones to display information and track the user’s activity.
