iPhone 6 Plus, a look at specifications and features

 iPhone 6 Plus

The iPhone 6 Plus is Apple’s first and largest phablet ever, the company released on Tuesday. Here are the specifications for Apple’s 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple’s original iPhone didn’t have any rivals, but as of now, it has to meet the challenges from its competitors. While other developers have tested with bigger devices or even tablet-sized handsets, Apple remained small. The iPhone 6 Plus’s predecessors featured only a 4-inch display, which today is small because even the smallest flagships feature 4.7 inches and most are over 5.

The new model measures 158.1 X 77.8 X 7.1 mm and weighs 172g. The iPhone 6 Plus is the largest device apple has created till date, and will push the recently released Galaxy Note 4 for the top spot in the high-end segment. The iPhone 6 Plus big display has a screen resolution of 1080 X 1920 – will be sharper than its predecessors at 401 pixels per inch rather than 326.

Usually, apps are stacked vertically, even when the phone is held horizontally. App developers will also have new tools to rearrange their content to take advantage of that larger screen.

Aside from the larger LCD display, the front of the iPhone 6 Plus is also made with what Apple calls “ion strengthened glass.” The back of the phone is crafted from anodized aluminum that carries a stainless steel Apple logo. It is 7.1 mm thick, slimmer than iPhone 5S.

The iPhone 6 Plus is equipped with a longer-lasting and bigger battery. The new device gets 24 hours of 3G talk time, up to 16 days on standby, up to 12 hours of internet use on LTE/WiFi, and up to 14 hours of video playback.

The new model is embedded with iOS 8, the latest update of Apple’s mobile operating system, which will be available beginning on September 17 for all Apple devices.

Apple has also introduced a new 64-bit A8 processor for iPhone 6 Plus which is 13 percent smaller than the A7 from last year. Apple’s Phil Schiller says it offers 25 percent faster CPU performance and 50 percent faster graphics.

The iPhone 6 Plus features a new fancy next-generation front–facing iSight camera. It is still has 8 megapixels rear like the iPhone 5S. It features face-detection autofocus, allowing faster autofocus and advanced noise reduction. The iPhone 6 Plus has optical image stabilization and can record 1080p videos at 30 or 60 frames-per-second, and Slo-Mo video at 240 frames-per-second.

Apple Pay

The new model will support Apple Pay, an all-new NFC mobile payment system that lets you pay for goods with your phone instead of your credit at checkout counters. The companies participating in Apple pay include American Express, MasterCard, and Visa.

The iPhone 6 Plus is available in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB versions priced for $300, $400, and $500. Pre-orders begin September 12, the phone however will be available only after September 19.
