Dubai police just added another car to their “super fleet” of luxury and high-end sports cars: A $1.6 million Bugatti Veyron. Dubai police force are already the proud owners of the world’s fastest cars including a Nissan GTR, Aston Martin 177, an Audi R8, a Ferrari FF, and a Ford Mustang.
Dubai police are using their super fleet as a means of connecting with citizens and tourists. Described by the global news site Vocativ as one of the most progressive Arab police forces, officers like to flaunt their fleet in some of the most luxurious parts of Dubai, including shopping malls, the beach, and the luxurious hotels.
The Veyron sports a staggering 1,001 horsepower engine that is capable of reaching 267 miles per hour and going from 0 to 60 miles per hour I 2.5 secs. But if you’re wondering how it performs in a police chase, don’t get your hopes up. The car is just the latest tool for marketing and outreach purposes.
In a video interview, second lieutenant Khalifa Abdulla Mohammed Alfalasi said the fleet has become another one of Dubai’s tourist attractions.
“Usually people when they see a policeman, they feel scared. But in this car, you feel different. You feel like we are more smiley, more friendly, [and the] more they want to talk to you.”%
