World’s First 3D Printed Car Design Challenge – Which car is Local Motors likely to choose? Find out!

An entire call will be printed this month at the International Manufacturing Technology Show in the month of September. Now, doesn’t that sound thrilling? The company behind this project is local Motors. It held the world’s first 3D Printed Car Design Challenge to choose its ultimate design. More than 200 groups participated in the competition. But, after the polls, only two designs remained in the end.

 3D Printed Car Design Challenge
The first prize (declared by the judge) was bagged by Michele Anoé for his two seater buggy called Strati. The main body of the car can be printed as a single piece with a convertible canvas top. The 3D printed seats are removable and therefore allow you to customize the colour of your interior. And, the car’s dune buggy design is supported with an aluminium roll bar and carbon fiber support panels.

The other winner of the challenge is called ISF {Internal Strut Frame}. It has open body shape. And it was a mini sports car.

Although Strati inspired many, we feel that ISF, which has sturdy lightweight frame design also, has its chance at the final design. In the end, we just have to note that the real winner is Local Motors which has revolutionized the car prototyping process.
